Vertal Engineering, QC
Engineering Project Manager, 2011 - Present
Direct engineering projects from
initial planning, budget development and design through scheduling, benchmarks,
completion and close-out. Coordinate and manage staff, resources and project
budgets up to $100000 administer contracts and
outsourcing activities regarding parts design; coordinate construction teams.
Serve as consultant on other projects. Craft preventive maintenance programs
for large-scale projects. Interact and coordinate with customers; resolve
complex issues and contribute to strong customer relationships. Oversee commercial
department tasked with commercial sales of Big Hannah Bioreactors throughout
North America.
Key Projects:
- Selected within one year of hire to hold Project Manager title, overseeing contracted projects including construction of private clinic.
- Assigned to lead team to analyze current procedures, develop comprehensive plan, and design, prototype and oversee under PE's supervision the implementation of $70,000 waste-management program for 300-employee plant.
- Leveraged expertise with heat transfer analysis and fluid mechanics to design and develop brushless ventilation heat exchangers, leading 2 team members through design, flow-pattern determination and prototyping for $60,000 project destined for client's R&D applications.
- Successfully managed 7-day "rush" project involving 10-person team and $15,000 budget, designing lighting system to control traffic and work flow for local recycling plant.
- Conducted preliminary research and analysis, determined ideal parameters, and used heat-transfer analysis, energy analysis, fluid mechanics and mechanical calculations to design domestic composter; led team to build prototype, verifying adherence to municipal, provincial and federal regulations.
- Repeatedly contacted by McGill University to serve as consultant on a variety of cutting-edge engineering projects.
McGill University, Montreal, QC
Junior Engineering Research Assistant, 2008 -
2011
Collaborated with colleague to
design, prototype, refine, and produce composting bioreactors. Conducted
extensive research, including patent searches, on current technology;
analyzed regulations and requirements to determine appropriate specifications.
Resolved problems and utilized diverse engineering techniques to effectively complete projects.

Key Achievements:
- One of 5 students nationally to earn ECO Canada Award for excellence in environmental research, involving presentation to American Ecological Society annual conference.
- Created inexpensive, effective composting bioreactor that utilizes heater core, copper tubing and metal frame, and 200-litre plastic barrel to harness naturally occurring decomposition-generated heat, distribute it uniformly, and provide cured compost without pathogens or harmful organisms (provisional patent issued).
- Determined that technology can be scaled up for industrial-scale bioremediation applications such as removing heavy metals and pathogens from contaminated earth
